Turn your water into clean energy.

We are now partnering with a company offering an exciting new addition to the hydro technology mix.

Utilising wasted pressure in water pipes

If you use high volumes of water in your manufacturing and industrial processes then you are likely to have pressure control valves in your system. These are designed to take pressure out of the system, and reduce and control flow. The new micro hydro system creates renewable energy from this excess energy, instead of burning off the differential pressure as heat.

The energy recovery system replicates the functionality of a control valve, creating precise pressure management and flow control. The Micro Hydro systems can be easily installed, with no downtime, providing an in-conduit energy recovery system technology, essentially, tiny power plants, that can harness the flow of water through existing pipes to efficiently generate power.

One installation at one water utility customer has been operating successfully for over a year and has exceeded its energy generation goals by producing 203,000 kWh of electricity in its first year. It’s expected to continue generating at least 200,000 kWh of electricity per year (enough to power 20 homes), generating about million dollars’ worth of electricity over the life of the system. The In-PRV was designed to last for 30 years with regular maintenance. Case studies have successfully demonstrated paybacks of less than 2 years.

By monetising this wasted pressure into electricity, it in turn, makes water more available, reliable, and affordable. From a single unit to a multi-unit, system-wide approach, the more you install the greater the impact on reducing energy costs, saving water, and meeting your sustainability goals.

Why we love Hydro

Here at PM Renewables, we love hydro systems, and there are quite a few reasons why:

  • Reliability

    • Constant supply (unlike solar & wind)

    • Grid stability (ability to quickly adjust output to match demand)

  • Efficiency

    • Energy conversion is often around 90% - significantly higher than other technologies.

    • Low operational costs

  • Environmental benefits

    • Low greenhouse gas emissions

    • Low air pollution

  • Flexibility

    • Peak load management efficiency

  • Longevity

    • Lifespan

    • Infrastructure integration

The ability of hydro systems to provide stable base load power, support grid stability, and offer flexible energy storage makes it a crucial component of a sustainable energy future.

We are excited to take on board this Micro Hydro System as a new addition to our hydro portfolio and see this system as an essential technology in the race to decarbonise and generation of renewable energy. Get in touch for more information here.
